Why don't disgusting images on cigarette boxes encourage Indonesian smokers quit their habit

The picture in this article should show you what kind of images can be found on Indonesia cigarette boxes.

Since 2014, to discourage people from smoking, the Indonesia government has enforced a regulation that all producera of cigarette had to put images, disgusting ones, showing the possible result of smoking habits. The regulation follows what was already done by many countries.

The images look ugly and really freightening, and for sure really disgusting.

However, I really don't think those kinds of images will deter Indonesian smokers to keep smoking. It may cause few people to stop but the majority will continue and new comers in smoking world will keep coming.

There is a reason for this thought.

You may wonder what is the relation between the jammed street with the cigarette box disgusting image.

Reckless driving or riding are already the nature on Indonesian streets. It is not only limited to speeding but also including contra flow riding or driving, overloaded cars or motorcycles, rising without helmet, and many other carelessnesses are done by Indonesian.

It makes Indonesians are accustomed with dangers or must face it daily.

Speeding, reckless driving and riding can promise immediate impacts, either wounded to death. Someone can lose their life in few seconds for doing this.

Many accident should have shown to the others about the effects of something considered as bad things. It should have raised an awareness about what consequences to be suffered by the ones who continue to do the acts.

However, as you may see, people keep doing this everytime. Everytime. They know what potential danger they will suffer but it didn't cause them quitting or atopping such bad behaviour.

The risk is an immediate death but they ignored.

Smoking is not guaranteed an immediate death. So, how could the smokers feel scared if they are accustomed to do more dangerous actions in daily life.

With this habit, images on cigarrete boxes may cause uneasinesa on smoker stomaches, it is still disgusting, definitely. However, that's it. It will only cause nausea but it won't make smokers quit their habit.

It is less dangerous than their daily life.
