To Make Indonesians Obey Laws is the Biggest Challenge of Indonesia Government

Seeing this kind of view everyday, and also how Indonesians live, it makes me think that the biggest challenge for this country doesn't come from outside. They come from inside.

The biggest and most challenging one is to make Indonesians obey laws.

Everyday, an Indonesian breaks at least several laws in their activities. The waywardness of Indonesians to their own laws and regulations can be seen mostly on streets. You don't to read news about corruptions or crimes but just walk around and you can see how disobedient are Indonesians.

Their attitudes inevitably makes people , who visit Indonesia for first time think that there is now law in this country. They do it anytime and anywhere.

Why I think this as the biggest challenge?

Well. Indonesia has had no big war against anybody for quite long time. The country's economy is quite stable, even we can say good and growing. Indonesians are getting more and more educated.

All factors make the country future look promising.

However, at the same times, those make me wondering.

Indonesian has been included as one of "developing country" since 1980's. Many observers , at that time, considered the country was one of the most potential nation to be the next "dragon", at least in Asia, following Japan, China, Singapore. Now, as you should have already known, Indonesia is still a "developing country". No change.

It is understood well that development always needs time. Rome is not built in one night.

But, there is a but here. Thirty six years have been used and there is almost no sign that Indonesia will step up to the enxt level. After such a long time, we still go nowhere.

If all what the past observers said were correct, there should be already some signs about us becoming a developed country. Unfortunately, only slight changes pop up.

There should be something wrong. Economy raises. Political situation is stable. More educated people are born. Indonesia is never lack of natural resource.

The streets of Indonesia shows what is wrong with this country. The meantality of its people.

They always think laws or regulation are something to break. They underestimate the role of laws in the life. They think they are the most important person in the world that everybody must give them privilege everywhere and everytime. No laws can be applied on them.

Such mentality is the cause of the failure of this country to develop at their maximum. The growth is held by too many laws breakings. The energy, cost, time have been wasted only to ask them following simple rules such throwing litter or garbage to trash bin.

That's why I consider to make Indonesians obey laws is the biggest challenge of Indonesia government if they want this country to move forward. Without it, then another thirty years can pass and Indonesia will still be a "developing country".
