Should Indonesia follow Singapore to ban chewing gum?

Indonesia government should start to consider applying the same chweing gum ban like Singapore has done since 1992. If the country has regulated cigarretes, there should be no difficulties to do the same on chewing gum.

The picture on this article shown chweimg gum sticked to a handrail inside a commuting train between Bogor and Jakarta. It is only one from, I don't know how many as it is almost uncountable, similar cases of chewing gum littering found in public areas.

Indonesia's vandals dispose chewed gum mostly to anything near to them. As it's been known widely Indonesians are famous for their ignorance to follow rules or laws. They are also known to be too lazy to dispose their waste on correct places.

So, the result is quite imaginable. The chewing gum litter are easy to find in many public spots. Usually it is attached on the place that is a bit out from people sight, like under chairs.

Such vandalism acts have caused a lot disturbance for public fqcility users. Like the handrail, the sticked chewed gum prevents it from doing its duty. Unfortunately, there is no survey in Indonesia to show the number of pants or skirts that have become victims of the stupidity. I believe the number will be quite astonishing as public chairs are one of the most favorite places to dispose the used chewing gum.

Therefore, I believe, Indonesia has started to think something to prevent chewing gum littering to continue. If they can limit the movement of smokers , they should also do the same for chewing gummers. They caused lots of damage also not only to public facility but also to private ones (pants or skirts or clothes are usually private things, am I right?)

But, I don't think there will be any actions taken. Chewing gum is not a big business in Indonesia and not too big money involved, so I don't the case of chewing gum littering will be considered seriously.

Sigh!
