Sex Education ? Don't Bother. Indonesians Are Too Shy To Hear About The Nature

Probbaly you may wonder if you know that Indonesia is considered among one of the countries from where viewers of porn video come the most. The country may not be on the top list but for sure millions of their people spare some of their time visiting XXX-rated swebsites.

It was the reason behind the policy issued by Indonesia Government to block all adult website from apperaing on any interne capable device. All internet and communication providers have been instructed to do the blockage.

It is quite worrying, yet baffling to see this fact. Indonesia is the largest moslem country in the world with more than 200 millions of registered moslems.

Moslems are not allowed to see nudity. In fact, staring to a face of women is considered as a violation of the Syari'ah law. So, it is perplexing paradox to know such facts.

However, after giving a thought on the way how Indonesians live and their perception on this matter, perhaps it is quite understandable.

For Indonesians, sex is something you should not discuss openly. It is a taboo. You may be considered as a person without manners if you talk this openly in front of public. Physical relationship between two genders, which is surely the nature of being human  should only be talked behind a closed door.

This habit caused many people, especially younger generation has known only a bit about what is sex about. Their parents, teachers, or elders are too shy to teach them about this thing.

Sex education often has never been taught due to the mindset that sees sex as a taboo.

As a result, the younger generation, that have hunger to know about knowledge and also to learn about how they are created and born have no reliable source to teach them about sex.

Unluckily, in this modern world, there is one popular source for everything, internet. Everybody can find anything, anywhere, including the things Indonesian parents considers as taboo, sex. What makes it worse, they won't find boring literatures full of difficult terms written by doctors or professors. Instead of that, they are more attracted to "full of action of adult movie" that should give them clearer "pictures" about what sex is.

Something that actually can be prevented if the sex education can be taught as early as possible to the Indonesian younger generation. They can learn under guidance of reliable and trusted adults, like their parents or teachers. However, with the shyness of the elder generation to transfer their knowledge on this thing, the source of knowledge has been closed and encourage them to find from other sources, on their own way.

Yes, Indonesia government and all internet providers have blocked the access to indecent sites but it won't stop them from seeing such movies. The younger generation is cleverer than our information ministry to use tool they download form internet to open the blockage. I saw many pupils did this without any difficulties. It's a naive thought if the government thinks that it solved the problem. Definitely, it is not.
