Death sentence for a child rapist : the war against child abuse starts
Curup District Court, Bengkulu Province, Indonesia gave a death sentence to Zainal (9/29/2016), one of 14 persons arrested for a rape and a murder of 14 years old girl in Bengkulu few months ago.
Four others, his friends involved in the cruel action were given 20 years behind bars verdict. Another one, under-aged boy was sentenced to rehabilitation based on the child crimimnal laws.
This is the first death sentence given in child abuse case after the country issued sterner laws to fight against child abuse in May 2016.
Based on the new laws, people doing sex crimes on under aged kids will face either emaculation or death verdict.
The laws had been issued in response of worryingly increasing numbers of sexual child abuse in the country. This Bengkulu's case attracted and attention all over Indonesia and also the President of Indonesia, Mr Jokowi. Eventually, the government decided to announce the new and stern laws to protect children.
